Nelson City Council (NCC) installed traffic control measures on Princes Drive, Moana Avenue and Bisley Avenue in January 2024. This was for a 2-year trial.

The measures were installed following complaints about the speed and volume of traffic on these roads. This concept was supported by wider studies such as the Nelson Future Access Study.

The type of calming measure installed was determined by the vehicles using each road. For example, speed cushions were installed on Moana and Bisley Avenues to slow normal traffic, but allow the eBus to straddle the cushion and not be affected. Likewise, a speed hump was installed on Princes Drive as buses do not travel along that section of road.

Council’s analysis before the trial showed that there were speed issues in the area. Subsequent analysis has shown speeds and traffic volumes on these roads has now reduced.

We would now like to hear from residents and users of the roads on their experience since the traffic calming measures were installed. The results will help form part of an evaluation report, going to Council, at the end of the trial.

This survey will be open to collect responses till 5pm, Friday 12 September.
