The Tahunanui reserve an area that is loved by Nelsonians and visitors. Part of the reserve is the area known as the Modellers Pond.
Historically, this was an area that was used for sailing model boats, with weeds being controlled by copper sulfate (which was found to be toxic). When the chemical treatment stopped, weeds became a major issue, and it was becoming increasingly more costly to keep safe and clean.
A number of different options have been explored, and recent discussions with iwi of Te Tau Ihu have come up with a new revised option.
This option has been approved to progress to a preliminary design stage. Once that design is complete it will come back to the Sport and Recreation Committee.
We are interested to get your feedback now, and the public will also be able to make a formal submission when the project is listed in next year's 2021 - 2031 Long Term Plan.
