Tāhunanui Back Beach and the surrounding area will be closed to the public from 6am - 4pm on Tuesday 19 March while contractors top up the sand bund covering the contaminated sawdust pile.

The road to Back Beach will be closed from just beyond the skate rink carpark. The skate rink carpark will remain open.

If you are visiting the beach, please be mindful of machinery working in the area.

While there has been some erosion of the sand bund, no additional erosion of the face of the sawdust pile has taken place. Council contractors continue to closely monitor and maintain the sand bund on a day-to-day basis to ensure the area is safe for all to use.
