Prepare ahead for St Vincent Street to reopen

3 November 2026

Some final preparation work will be happening on St Vincent Street, including line marking and road surfacing, as we prepare to reopen the road in mid-November.

Thursday 5 November

The small section of St Vincent Street will close again, with all traffic flowing between Haven Road and Halifax Street. This traffic management plan will stay in place till we complete the project, and the road opens.

Tuesday 10 November

To allow for the final line marking and preparation, there will be full overnight closures for a week from 10 November.

Over this period, we'll be preparing the road for final surfacing, installing the traffic light sensors, testing the system and completing the final line marking.

The final stages of work are weather dependent and there may be changes to the dates.

St Vincent Street is expected to reopen in mid-November as work on a significant upgrade to underground infrastructure in the area nears completion.

When the road reopens, drivers will notice a major change to the road layout, with traffic lights replacing the existing roundabout.

This is a busy intersection, and a safety audit found that traffic lights would improve safety for people travelling through the area.

We'll confirm the exact reopening date through Council channels once it's finalised.
