Investigation work to get underway

21 February 2025

Over the past couple of years, there have been several infrastructure upgrades in the Washington Valley area, including Hastings Street and St Vincent Street. The next part of this upgrade project is to connect to those previous upgrades and take the pipes through towards Halifax Street and Saltwater Creek.

The current old pipes need to be replaced before they start to fail, and an upgrade of the stormwater, sewer and drinking water pipes will mean we can maximise the benefits of the previous work.

All of this work will mean we can better manage the impacts of climate change and development into the future.

We are currently in the design stage of the project, working with Tasman Civil Ltd to determine the best way to complete this work. Minimising the impact on businesses and residents is a key factor that will influence the design.

To make sure the proposed design can be efficiently constructed we need to do some investigation work on the street. This will involve digging test pits in St Vincent Street and Halifax Street and checking the physical location of the pipes and services under the road. This work is planned to begin on 24 February 2025 and will take 7 days to complete. The road will be closed during this time, and detours will be in place.

The main work is scheduled to start on St Vincent Street (between Hastings Street and the Halifax St intersections) in June 2025. This is a significant project and is expected to take 12 months to complete and road closures and traffic management will be in place throughout.

With work of this scale there will be disruption, so we want to talk with those affected to minimise any impact this might have. We will be in contact in the coming months to share information and get feedback that will help us shape how this project occurs.
