current lighting at saxton

New LED sports lighting and solar panels are due to be installed at which will require a temporary closure from Monday 1 April to Friday 17 April.

The lighting upgrade will significantly improve both visibility and energy efficiency at the stadium. The existing lights are prone to failure and do not provide sufficient lighting for the range of sports codes that use the facility.

During the closure, solar panels and battery systems will also be installed.

The system is being installed in partnership with NCC/TDC and Civil Defence to provide a limited resilience solution in the event of a natural disaster, while also generating renewable energy for day-to-day use and reducing ongoing operating costs.

The project is part of a nationwide programme administered by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), under the Community Renewable Energy Fund, which supports renewable energy systems to strengthen community resilience.

TDC secured a grant from the ECCA and Nelson City Council have contributed 20% of the proposed cost ($14,500k).

Both projects are being delivered jointly by Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council.
