Why are we doing this work?

2 March 2021

Heavy rainfall early morning on 2 March clearly showed why we are upgrading Saxton Creek.

There is an 80 metre stretch of creek remaining, which has not yet been made wider as part of the upgrade. Heavy rainfall on Tuesday clearly showed the difference between the narrow part of the creek and the wider upgraded creek.

The narrow section flooded with the amount of water flowing through it. The wider sections of the creek were more than capable of handling the large volume of water.

Widening the creek helps protect properties downstream, so that the creek does not flood in the event of heavy rainfall.
