Reinstating Van Diemen Street and Rutherford Street intersection

17 January 2023

Our contractors have started back at work on the Rutherford Street upgrade (from 16 January 2023) as we apply the finishing touches to this project.

Prior to Christmas, the Waimea Road portion of the project was sealed and traffic was directed back through Rutherford Street and Waimea Road. This means going forward there will be no need for the detour to be put back in place.

Here's the work schedule:

• 16 to 18 January: preparing the surface on Rutherford Street for the remaining resurfacing. Look out for minor changes to the road layout.

• 16 to 18 January: the fence at the intersection of Rutherford Street and Van Diemen Street will return while that road is prepped for being reinstated to its former layout. This means that traffic travelling through that intersection will not be able to drive up Van Diemen Street through to Trafalgar Street.

• 19 to 20 January: resurfacing of Rutherford will be completed, which will require road closures at various points of the day on Rutherford Street (Between Bronte and Brougham) and Wellington/Examiner Street. Traffic lights will also be used on Rutherford Street to allow the work to be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

All work is weather dependent and we will let you know if there are any changes to the plan. Please drive carefully through the work site and follow the signage, which may change at various points in the day depending on the work occurring.
