Track closures for thinning operations

29 November 2023

Thinning operations are planned in the Marsden Valley area for the end of November and beginning of December 2023.

The thinning operation will involve felling 40% of the standing trees within the identified stand, with those trees being removed from the area. Thinning allows the remaining crop trees to maximise their growth.

The below map shows the stand requiring thinning and where road/track closures will occur. These temporary closures will start from 4 December 2023 and include: Barnicoat Firebreak Walkway, Weir Track and Widdershins.

This work will take approx. 1 week to complete.

To minimise disturbance as much as practically possible our contractors will only work during weekdays and closures when required will only be in place during working hours. Spotters will be used to ensure there are no people on the tracks whilst felling occurs.

The public will have access to the area in the evenings and weekends, and all felled trees will be removed from trails before being reopened to the public at the end of each day.
