Important work has been underway in the Maitai Valley this week to improve safety and support long-term environmental restoration.

Over recent weeks, contractors have felled dead standing pine trees that were at risk of falling onto the public road near Polford Bridge.

This week, hydroseeding via helicopter took place across the slope with grass seed to help stabilise the hillside and reduce erosion risk, and logs are being cleared from the site to reduce the chance of debris entering the river system.

The next stage of this work will see native trees planted this winter, helping restore the area over time and improve the resilience of the landscape.
