Reinforcing complete and road open

16 October 2024

The work to repair the slip on Maitai Road is now complete. The anchor bolts were drilled through the concrete retaining panels and into the ground under the road. One anchor bolt needed to be redone after going in 15 metres and not hitting any rock!

After that replacement bolt was completed, then the Maitai residents got some welcome relief, with the traffic lights removed and the road open back to two-way traffic.

There is still a little bit of work to do in the summer when the river levels are lower. This is the removal of the old railway iron that held part of a previous retaining wall. Residents and the public will be informed when this work is set to get underway.
