At the beginning of December the Innovating Streets Project will get underway in the Nelson South area. This project aims to make this area a safer and more livable space.

The project is split over three phases, with the first phase focusing on trialling new road designs.

We are expecting Phase One to be completed by 23 December 2020.

We’ve had great feedback from the Nelson South community, and hope that you join your neighbours in supporting this project.

What will happen in Phase 1?

The three intersections of Kawai St South / Tipahi St, Tipahi St / Tukuka St and Kawai St South / Tukuka St, will be changed to stop intersections. The intersection will have new coloured areas and raised courtesy pedestrian and cycling crossings added. This will help slow the traffic, making it safer for residents.

To make these changes the roads will be closed to through traffic. Residents will still have access, but there may be some delays.
