Co-designing with the Community

17 March 2021

We kicked off Phase 2 with a co-design meeting at Nelson Intermediate. This was a great opportunity to get direct input from the community about what can be done to make Nelson South better for people walking or cycling in the area.

It was also a chance for people to let us know their thoughts about the Phase 1 trial. Based on this feedback (and feedback received to date) we will be trialling some further changes.

We received a heap of feedback on Phase 2, with some excellent ideas. While there were differing views on some points, we felt everyone appreciated the chance to have their say and interact with their local community.

Following the meeting on Thursday evening, the project team was back at Nelson Intermediate School on Friday. Over 200 students came through to give their suggestions on how to make active travel easier for them, and how the street fronting their school could be improved.

Overall we've had a fantastic response, and appreciate everyone giving their time to meet with the project team.

We will now review all feedback, and look at possible ways to meet the needs of the majority of users. We will look to trial some solutions, and will get the community involved in making the decision about how to progress.
