Closure recommended to Council

4 April 2022

The Infrastructure Committee meeting on 31 March 2022 accepted the recommendation to close the street and put forward the following recommendation to Council:

That the Council

1. Approves that the intersection of Waimea Road and Hampden Street (west) be closed to vehicular traffic long-term by determining under section 319(1)(f) of the Local Government Act 1974 that part of the Hampden Street (west) road is footpath and cycle track.

This is all part of the legal process required to close the road.

The next Council meeting will be on Tuesday 10 May 2022. After this approval, a design will be created for this area.

A big thank you to all the residents for your input, with over 80% of respondents supporting the closure.
