Over the years there have been some nasty accidents around Hampden Street (West) where it meets Waimea Road. We have been looking at solutions to make this area safer for all users.

On Sunday 6 October 2019 a trial closure of Hampden Street (West) was put in place to see if this helps improve safety. This ran for 12 months, a and report was presented to Council with the initial results of the trial.
