Construction to begin at the end of September

31 August 2020

Following delays due to the COVID-19 Alert restrictions, we are now in a position to get this project underway for construction.

The new pipeline design has been completed, as well as the design of a new wider footpath along Annesbrook Drive from Stafford Avenue. Construction of this project is set to start in the week of 28 September 2020.

This is a large project that will run in two stages, with a break over the Christmas and New Year period to minimise disruption. The second stage is expected to be completed by March 2021.

Stage One:

Stage One will occur prior to Christmas. This involves installing the section of pipeline from Stafford Avenue through the Annesbrook roundabout and up Whakatu Drive to a new manhole. During this time the south-bound lane of Annesbrook Drive will be closed to thru-traffic and the bus route will be diverted to Waimea Road via Beatson Road roundabout.

The existing bus stop at the Quarantine Road intersection will not be available during this time and passengers will need to walk up Quarantine Road to the Waimea Road bus stop. The north-bound bus route and bus stop on Annesbrook Drive will not be affected. There will still be access to private properties along Annesbrook Drive from the north-bound lane or from Stafford Avenue. Rubbish collection during this stage of works will not be affected.

Stage Two:

Stage Two will get underway in the New Year. This stage will involve the completion of the section of pipeline from the Railway Reserve in Quarantine Road and along Annesbrook Drive to Stafford Avenue.

This work (during February) will include the footpath widening works and connection of a new section of water main servicing properties near Stafford Avenue. Speed restrictions will be in place, with stop/go at times. Lane closures may occur.

If access to individual properties will be affected, then the Council Project Manager or the Contractor will contact residents directly to provide the relevant information closer to the time.

Rubbish collection will be affected at the location of works and property owners will be given advance notice of any change. The Contractor will be able to move your rubbish bins to an appropriate place and return them on the same day.

As part of the new pipe installation we will need to replace some old earthenware sewer pipe connections from the main pipe through to property boundaries. The new pipes will be more durable PVC pipes and will allow for better future pipe maintenance and inspections. Footpath, grass berms and garden areas will be reinstated by the Contractor as part of this work.

We appreciate this work will be quite disruptive at times especially with traffic management requirements and property access restrictions. We will work with you to minimise this disruption where we can, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. This work will provide a wastewater network that is more resilient to wet weather flows, which will have benefits for everyone.
