Slip repairs are now complete

17 June 2024

The slip repairs on Cable Bay Road are complete.

Mayor Nick, along with Cr Trudie Brand and Cr Matty Anderson and the Recovery Taskforce, joined contractors and residents at the Cable Bay Adventure Park Cafe to celebrate the completion of the repair of three slips along Cable Bay Road.

The slips were triggered by the August 2022 weather event and while the road was able to remain open, it was down to one lane in some areas. Work on repairing the slips started in February and presented a challenge, with significant drop offs, along with unknown and unstable ground conditions that required road closures at times.

Working in limited space, the project team encountered rock where they didn’t want it and no rock where they did want it. This resulted in 11 redesigns by Council consultant Tonkin + Taylor and contractor, Donaldson Civil.

It’s a credit to the team that despite these redesigns, the project came in under its $1 million budget, and on time.
