Fencing has been removed from Halifax and Rutherford Streets following the completion of major underground infrastructure works as part of Bridge to Better.

Contractors are completing final tidy-up works on site, but the road, along with Achilles Ave, has fully reopened.

Isaac Construction used pipe-jacking technology to install two new wastewater pipes beneath Halifax Street without fully closing the road. This trenchless method involved installing around 50 metres of pipe from a 4-metre-deep pit, allowing the work to be completed while managing groundwater and tidal conditions.

The new pipes will provide an efficient, reliable connection to the city’s pump station.
