On Monday 10 March 2025, the work on upgrading the water pipe along Bridge Street East (Queen's Gardens to Collingwood Street) kicked off with a blessing.

Our local iwi leaders were joined by contractors and project staff, to bless the work site before construction started.

This was the first step in the larger Bridge to Better project, which aims to revitalise Nelson's city centre by upgrading the infrastructure through the heart of our city.

Work on Bridge Street East in now underway, and in a couple of weeks, work will also get underway along Halifax Street and Collingwood Street.

This means that two contractors will be working at the same time, so that the job will be done faster, with less overall disruption.

The first part of disruption from the Collingwood/Halifax Street project is likely to be some investigation work (confirming the location of the pipes).
