Work on Golf Road and Parkers Road intersection

1 August 2023

We're on the final stretch, with work moving to the Golf Road/ Parkers Road intersection. This will be a major step towards decommissioning of the old Pump Station and completing the project.

Work has been on hold due to technical issues with a section of pipeline down Parkers Road, but that is now resolved so we can move forward.

The overall areas affected are shown in the map below.

Upcoming work:

  • Completion of pipeline testing in Parkers Road to allow sewage flow switching works to proceed.
  • Switching of sewage flows in the manholes at the Parkers Rd/ Golf Road intersection to redirect flow from Pump Station No.1 to the new Pump Station in Awatea Place.
  • Work to decommission the old Pump Station No.1.
  • Reinstatement of kerbs and asphalt surfacing in affected areas.

Completion of pipeline testing in Parkers Road

The red area below shows the approximate area of pipeline testing. We expect testing to be completed this week (first week of August).

Switching of sewage flows in the manholes at the Parkers Rd/ Golf Road intersection

Flow switching work will redirect sewerage flow from the old pump station network to the new Awatea Place station. This is planned to begin int eh second week of August and will continue until approximately mid-August 2023.

The work will require access into the manholes in the intersection as shown.

The contractor will work to maintain vehicle access to properties wherever possible while this work takes place.

The temporary pumping operations are likely to take 1-3 days each time (unless an unforeseen circumstance arises) and will be required sporadically over the next 2 weeks.

Where there is likely to be a long gap between operations the contractor intends to remove the temporary pumping equipment and clear the road to provide normal access to homes.

Please note there will be “no parking” in the area marked in yellow int he above map. This is to keep the area cleared to allow pumping equipment to be set up and removed and to allow access into and out of properties.

Work to decommission the old Pump Station No.1 (including installation of a new manhole and final drainage pipework connections)

When the flows have been switched, the work area will move over to focus on the old Pump Station No.1 site (as shown below).

A one-way traffic light system will be in place. This work is likely to be undertaken from mid-August through into mid-September 2023. We may need to switch traffic lanes at times to get access back to the area highlighted (note the star) to allow us to make a final connection into the existing gravity sewer pipeline.

Reinstatement of kerbs and asphalt surfacing in affected areas

Now that we can switch flows (which is critical to finishing work in this area), we are focused on completing the final works at the intersection and will reseal all areas (marked in red below).

This is likely to be mid to late September and is subject to weather and any unforeseen events affecting the flow switching and decommissioning of Pump Station No.1.

We are planning to have this area completed by 22 September 2023.

Work will be ongoing in Awatea Place to reinstate the kerbs, footpaths and road surfacing. The new Awatea Pump Station site will also be completed.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your ongoing patience.

Thank you.
