Updates on the next steps

7 July 2022

We have been facing a few challenges with this project. The ground conditions have been extremely challenging for deep excavation, and there have been considerable delays sourcing pipe from overseas. This has all affected the efficiency of the project.

Extra work is also currently being undertaken in Awatea Place to replace some stormwater pipes that are in poor condition. It was a good opportunity to make use of the excavators available to minimise further disruptive works later.

The expected completion date for the project has now been pushed out to December 2022.

Pipe laying in Awatea Place is expected to be completed early August 2022, then moving into Parkers Road. The pipe from Awatea Place will be extended through to Golf Road during the months of August and September. While this work is going on we will be continuing with the pump station site works.

The final pipe connections and commissioning are planned to occur in November. The last bits of reinstatement, landscaping and road works will follow commissioning in December 2022.

The community can expect further traffic delays for Parkers Road sewer pipe works between Awatea Place and Golf Road. Detours will be in place when the road needs to be closed again. Most of the work will require closure of the south bound lane of Parkers Road.

There will be related closures at the Golf Road and Awatea Place intersections, but all roads will remain accessible for emergency services if required. Further traffic management information will be publicised closer to the time of construction to help residents and the community with their journey planning in the area.
