Machine repairs and road closures

12 January 2023

Update: 12 January from Hunter Civil

Unfortunately, towards at the end of last year our sheet piling rig broke down, which halted our progress (you may have seen a partly driven sheet pile sticking out of the ground over the break!)

A replacement machine arrived on 12 January 2023, and repiling work got back underway on Friday 13 January 2023.).

The road closure on Parkers Road is back, closed between 7:30am and 6:00pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) as it was last year. The daily closures are indicated in blue on the sketch below. The section of Parkers Road that is closed 24 hours a day is marked in yellow.

Our team will continue to try and allow access to any properties that are within this closure area, should this be required during the working day. We will need some advanced notice and it may take a few minutes to move our trucks around to let you in or out. We will also work with you and the Council to make sure that rubbish can still be collected, and bins returned on the required days.

We also are in the process of preparing a section of Parkers Road to be surfaced (as the pipes in this area have already been put in place). When this is complete, we will be able to make further changes to the traffic management in the area. We will send out another notification and letter drop about these changes closer to the time.

Finally, there have been some very concerning events involving vandalism to our vehicles and threatening notes regarding our pumps/generators in Parkers Road. Unfortunately, the use of dewatering pumps is unavoidable when carrying out deep excavations. We need to pump water out of the trenches to prevent them collapsing on our workers. The safety of our team is essential.

We will be reviewing and reconstructing the noise barrier enclosure around our generator, to try to further reduce noise emissions going forward. We hope this further reduces the impact of noise for residents, and if you are experiencing any issues then please come and talk with us.

If you have any specific queries regarding our proposed closures, please contact our Project Engineer, Jess, via phone or email (021 0284 0199 or jess@huntercivil.co.nz ) or our Foreman, Sam, on 027 247 1200. Otherwise, you can call our office on 03 381 7094.

We thank you again for your patience and understanding while we carry out these challenging works. We apologise for any temporary inconvenience caused while this essential work is undertaken.
