From 23 March to 4 May 2025, the Tuku festival is six weeks of events to share (tuku) Nelson’s unique stories of people and place.
Every year, multiple organisations and community groups run their own events throughout Nelson with support from Nelson City Council. Events are hosted by the community for the community.
Events must have a focus on heritage through
stories of people and place and be open to the public. We are looking for a broad range of event ideas from our incredibly vibrant and diverse community. Surprise us!

Running your own Tuku 25 Whakatū event
The Tuku 25 Event Host Information Pack has information about the event and funding criteria.
Complete the Event Host/Listing Registration form below once you have your idea and you think it will suit our criteria. You only need to fill in the grant application section of the form if you are asking for financial support.
Alternatively, to support Te Ao Māori ways of working, you can simply reach out to Tom Ransom Arts and Heritage Adviser to book a kanohi ki te kanohi session to discuss your project. See Tom's details in the Contact us section.
Registrations for Tuku 24 Whakatū are open until 5pm 8 January 2025. Grant applicants will be contacted after this date.
