The Trafalgar footbridge, which spans the Saltwater Creek between the Trafalgar Centre and Haven Road, is nearing the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced.

This work will begin on Monday 20 May and is expected to finish in early June. Council has been working closely with Auckland Point School and the Trafalgar Centre events team to ensure this work is done outside of any major events, and so the school has time to prepare parents.

The replacement bridge has been designed by an artist who has other pieces of work around Nelson, including at Broadgreen Intermediate and Birchwood School (see image below).

The existing bridge abutments are in good condition and will not be replaced.

The new bridge will be used by cyclists and walkers, but won't be open to motorised vehicles.
