Work underway on the water main

2 August 2021

Work is underway to replace the ageing water main that runs down Rocks Road (from the intersection of Bisley Avenue and Tahunanui Drive to Magazine Point). The work is estimated to take 10 weeks to complete (depending on the weather).

The water main renewal work will provide a more reliable water supply to the users in the area and is being undertaken now before Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency - South Island reseals the road in November 2021.

There will be some disruption to traffic and bus routes with stop and go and other traffic management in place. Nelson City Council has been talking with businesses and residents to try and minimise this disruption.

Crews will be working from 6 am to 8 pm during the first stages of the work and 6 am to 6 pm for the remainder of the project. There will be some exceptions to these hours to accommodate the needs of businesses in the area.

The bus stops at Bisley Ave/the Sands Apartments (northbound and southbound) are closed from 2 August to 10 September while work is undertaken. Alternative bus stops can be found outside Mobil and Smugglers on Muritai Street.
