Nelson City Council (NCC) was scheduled to reseal the failing road in Songer Street between Bail and Willow Street in late May 2025. This area also contains a watermain that is earmarked to be replaced. To ensure we carry out these jobs efficiently, we would like to do both projects at the same time.
The existing water pipe is ageing, and replacing it is essential to prevent future water disruptions. We will increase the size of the pipe to cater for improved flows and development in the area.
When this work occurs, we will do our best to make sure that any inconvenience is minimised, but there is the potential for significant disruption, including noise and vibration, as we install the new pipe.
Access to Songer Street between Bail and Willow Street will be limited during the works. There will also be some disruption to water supply towards the end of the works to accommodate the connection of the new watermain and laterals (the pipes that run from the watermain to houses). We will let you know about these potential disruptions closer to the time when they might occur.
Work is scheduled to get underway in late May 2025, and will take around 4 weeks to complete (weather dependent). We will be in touch with residents when we have confirmed times for when the work will occur.
