Diverting the creek and looking to next year

1 December 2021

The team have been busy building and installing a diversion for Saxton Creek. A diversion will help us to continue installing the new culvert by directing the water around the normal path of the stream. This means the team won't have to deal with complicated tidal movements or put the creek's marine life at risk.

When the diversion was ready to be used, Fish and Wildlife representatives performed a fish salvage operation. There were lots of inanga and one eel which were happily relocated into the diverted creek.

After the Christmas / New Year break, the cones on Main Road Stoke will be shifted to the other side of the road. This will allow the team to start installing the culvert on that side of the road.

If everything goes to plan, we are expecting to be off Main Road Stoke by April 2022.
