Cleaning up after the weather event

25 October 2022

The weather in August had a significant impact on projects throughout Nelson city, with Saxton Creek Stage 4 being no exception.

The amount of water passing through the diversion pipes was considerable, so much so that the large concrete blocks anchoring the pipe moved!

Keeping the aquatic life safe

Following the weather event a further "fish out" was required as a couple of eels found their way back into the new culvert (which has yet to be connected).

Formwork being put in place

The Downer team have started work on bracing the formwork for the in-situ vertical panels. Basically this is making sure the large concrete panels can be put in the correct location to protect the sides of the creek.

This was quite a process, involving scaffolding, creating a solid base for the formwork, bracing and then positioning the panels using a HIAB (mini crane on the back of a truck) as powerlines restricted movement in the area.
