The Riverside Pool's existing heat pump and air handling units have reached the end of their service lives and will be replaced with modern equivalents. The current heat pump uses a type of refrigeration gas that is being phased out, making it increasingly difficult and expensive to source.
The project aims to install new equipment that complies with current standards. Expected benefits include increased facility reliability and efficiency.
The work plan has included:
- Phase 1 (completed in 2018/19) focused on efficiency upgrades,
- Phase 2 (2019/20 and 2020/21) upgraded electric elements with a larger electric resistance boiler, and
- Phase 3 (this project), which will replace the heat pump and air handling units, and is expected to take three months from the 1st December 2024.
All pools will be closed during this time, but the gym will remain open.
