This project is now complete. Thanks to everyone for your patience - and we hope you enjoy your resealed pathway.
The Railway Reserve is a much-loved shared pathway for hundreds of Nelsonians. Whether they are commuting to work or school, or simply enjoying the space for recreation, the pathway is well used daily.
Over the last couple of years, there has been some minor slumping and cracking of the sealed surface. This means that water can pool on the asphalt, making it hazardous after wet weather.
We are making the most of the school holiday period, to make some urgent repairs. This will make the pathway safer for all users.
The pathway will be closed Tuesday 20 April until Friday 30 April (weather permitting).
Council’s contractor will start on the section between Clarence Drive (the new underpass) and Boundary Road (20 and 21 April 2021). Cyclists will need to use Waimea Road as an alternative route during this time.
Once the initial section (Clarence Drive to Boundary Road) is finished, cyclists will be able to exit or enter the Railway Reserve from Boundary Road, depending on their destination.
The pathway will be open over the Anzac Day weekend. Please pay attention to any signage and avoid any cordoned off areas.
