Latest updates on the Orphanage Stream flood protection project

Over the years the Nelson area has been hit by some significant weather events. Back in April 2013, a storm caused significant flooding and damage along Orphanage Stream.

Following this storm, Council assessed this area and identified a number of infrastructure projects that could minimise the impact of future weather events. Some projects have since been completed, including the culvert under Saxton Road East and flood protection embankments and walls on Main Road Stoke.

The next project that will get underway is the construction of flood protection stop banks and a timber flood wall along Orphanage Stream between Saxton Road East and the footbridge connecting Woodstock Place with Kingsford Drive.

This project will start in January 2021 and take about 5 months to complete.
