A governance model to realise Nelson Marina’s full potential

Nelson City Council is reviewing its governance model for the Nelson Marina.

The next 10 years will see significant investment in Nelson Marina as Nelson City Council works to create a valuable asset that benefits the whole community, makes a return on investment, and provides extended, modern facilities that meet the changing needs of boat owners.

To make that happen, Council engaged Wardale Marine Consultants to develop a Masterplan for the Marina. The Masterplan will be released in 2022 for public feedback.

Council proposes that the Marina is run through a Management Council Controlled Organisation (CCO), while Council retains ownership of the asset.

Decision-making and management for the Marina is currently carried out by Council, but a Management CCO will allow Council to add people with specialist knowledge to a team responsible for guiding the Marina through this transition with a commercial focus.

Full details for all the options considered by Council are in the PDFs in the right-hand column of the website.

As per Section 56 of the Local Government Act 2002, any decision by Council to form a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) requires public consultation with our community and stakeholders. We are therefore requesting your view on the recommended option for the future governance of Nelson Marina.
