Nelsonian's love the Railway Reserve. It's used by hundreds of people every day.

To make the pathway safer, we are installing lighting. This will begin at St Vincent Street, and go through to Beatson Road.

This project aims to improve the safety and resilience of our active transport network, which includes being able to use this route at all times of the day and night.

We have had numerous requests from the public to light this section of the Railway Reserve and the project helps meet objectives set in in Council’s E Tū Whakatū, Nelson's Active Travel Strategy 2022–2032.

This project is stage 1 of the larger project, to light the whole of the Railway Reserve shared pathway out to Saxton Road.

The project started mid-March. The reserve will remain open, but traffic management will be in place. Delays can be expected while the light poles are being installed, so we appreciate your patience while this work is underway. Detours will be in place as the route will be blocked at times.

Signage will inform users of when detours are in place.
