During the year we carry out investigations on speeds in our streets. We have noticed that Karaka Street is a street that experiences speeds well above the speed limit.

To make Karaka Street safer we will be installing three speed humps to help slow vehicles down.

The type of speed humps that Council will be installing is called a Watts Profile hump. They are not designed to be used as pedestrian crossing points and do not remove any on-street parking. Similar speed humps are installed on Beatson Road.

The specific locations have been selected based on certain requirements (Please see the below image). These requirements include:

  • Not directly adjacent to high usage driveways where possible;
  • Locating them under existing or proposed streetlights, to improve traffic safety;
  • Complying with the minimum and maximum spacing requirements for speed humps.
