Both projects continue to progress

28 January 2022

Work on the stormwater realignment near Saltwater Creek is progressing well with asphalt now laid after the trenched areas have been filled in again on QEII Drive . The road will be fully re-opened for the upcoming long weekends (Nelson Anniversary and Waitangi), however, a small area will need to remain coned off over this period on the corner of the Haven Road roundabout.

After Waitangi weekend, work will start on the first of three trenches across Haven Road, between Vickerman Street and Haven Roundabout. During this time, traffic will be detoured along Wildman Avenue.

Work on the sewer renewal near Russell Street is also progressing well. The contractor has now opened Russell Street in time for the long weekend. After Waitangi weekend they will start trenching (digging) the last section of sewer pipe between 189 Haven Road to 175 Haven Road. After installation, we will then come back to install the lateral pipes, the pipes from the main pipe to each property.

The council work (sewer and stormwater main renewals) is scheduled to be finished in March 2022. Waka Kotahi will then carry out a surface reseal on this part of Haven Road.

A big thank you for everyone's patience and understanding while this essential work takes place. We understand that road closures, construction noise and vibrations can be disruptive. At the end of this work there will be a much-improved sewer pipe that will be more resilient into the future.
