The Dangerous Dams, Earthquake-prone Dams and Flood-prone Dams Policy was recommended to Council at the 10 April 2025 meeting of the Consultation Panel. See the Agenda here. The recording of the meeting can be seen here.
The Building Act (2004) requires Councils to regularly review their Dangerous Dams, Earthquake-prone Dams and Flood-prone Dams Policy.
Nelson's policy has recently been reviewed, and some changes are recommended to keep us in line with other Councils around New Zealand.
A statement of proposal can be seen here, along with the draft Policy here.
In order for these changes to come into force, then Council must undertake a special consultative procedure (SCP) to receive feedback from the public and affected/interested parties.
