Nelson is a great place to get around on your bike. The Great Taste trail is a jewel in our wider region's crown, but there is a gap for an off-road connection from Paru Paru Rd through to St Vincent Street.

This project aims to provide that connectivity, benefiting both the walking and cycling community.

This will include new shared paths on Rutherford Street (beside ANZAC Park) and on Paru Paru Rd, to link with the existing path. The intersection will be modified to make it safer for people to cross over Halifax Street, adding a raised table and larger traffic island, removing the slip lane from Halifax Street to Paru Paru Rd and reconfiguring the traffic signals.

To complete this work safely and as quickly as possible, Halifax Street (between Haven Road and Rutherford Street) will be closed for the duration of the work. Detours will be in place for both vehicles and NBus.
